  CALIFORNIA CAMPING

The Klamath River is a premier California camping destination.  The river offers so much for the entire family.  The most popular activity on the river is fishing.  Trout, Steelhead and Salmon make this river one of California's most sought after by anglers.

In the summer the Klamath becomes a virtual outdoor water park with rafters floating down.  The upper reaches of the Klamath (above highway 5) are known for its more intense class 4 rapids.  The lower Klamath is much more suited to families with over a hundred miles of class 2 and 3 rapids and slow meandering deep pools.

Gold panning is another very popular activity on the Klamath River.  Millions of dollars worth of gold has been extracted from the region.  Even today many small dredging operations work their claims and other areas extraction hundreds of thousands of dollars in gold.  Recreational gold panners are welcome in the area.  There is one large and well known club that offers very reasonable memberships for around $100 a year which will allow you to pan on their claims.  See www.GoldGold.com

We would be amiss top mention some of the other activities: hiking, hunting, caving, bird watching.  See our additional information pages to the left in the blue strip.

Our restroom/shower facilities need much refurbishing and is not open.  We will not begin this project until late in 2004 and so will not offer independent camping sites until sometime in late 2004.

However, on many occasions,  families have rented a hotel room to use for storage and restroom usage and then set up camp on the lawns overlooking the Klamath River.  Hotel guests (1-4 people) are welcome to pitch a tent and sleep outdoors at no additional cost.
