KLAMATH RIVER FISHING |
| |
 |

Dear Klamath River
Resort Innkeepers, Thanks to everyone there for the wonderful stay
we all had at your establishment. You made us feel right at home, and
the place is beautiful! Your hospitality was second to none, and
we plan to make this an annual trip. The fishing guide you set us up
with was perfect. Spence’s guide service you can highly recommend to any
of your guests. I have attached a photo of one of the 6 adult steelhead
we caught with him. We also had decent luck right behind your place
when we waded out to the island and drifted flies off the end of that
riffle. 1 adult steelhead and several half pounders. Thanks again and
see you next year!

President Hoover Fishing the Klamath |

Hoover fished the Klamath and all rivers of Nor Cal & Oregon often. He even built a fishing lodge at the Klamath. |

Much of the year both steelhead and
trout make the Klamath River their home. The fall has the strongest action as
the steelhead move upriver to spawn. In the spring they make their
way back down river to the Pacific. (Prime Fishing October to
March) Beginning in late summer, great
migrations of King Salmon (Chinook) make their way up river back to their
place of origin to lay their own eggs to complete the circle of life.
(Prime Fishing August to October) Be sure to check regulations regarding season and limits - see link below. |

Klamath River Fly Fishing |
| |
|
| |
Fly Fishing is
one of the most popular activities on the Klamath.
With most of the banks under public ownership, access is easy.
Unlike some other California rivers closer to major population centers,
the Klamath never gets crowded - One can fish a prime Saturday and never
see another fisherman.
Fly fishing is accessible directly in
front of the resort. Walk down the lawns from your guest room and
wade in front of the resort - most of the waters are around 3 feet deep.
Up river from the resort about 100 yards is an island with some great
riffles. Down river about 100 yards from the resort is a cold water
creek. After this creek there are several deep holes and multiple
boulders - great holding spots for hungry steelhead.
Make sure you have spikes on your boots
as the bottom of the Klamath is generally slippery. A walking stick
is a great option. Hiring a guide with a drift boat is another great
option for easy access. |

Drift Boats |
| |
One of the most popular methods to fish the
Klamath is by the use of drift boats. The most popular drift on the
mid Klamath is the famous "Cade Mountain Canyon." The highway leaves
the river and travels over Cade Mountain while the river has to go around
miles and miles away. Not only is this Canyon inaccessible except by
drift boat, it is also great holding water for winter steelhead. The
canyon is intermixed with great riffles, and deep holes. The put in
is China Point. There are no rapids over class 1 - and most rapids
are avoidable. End the drift at the resort. Leave the boat on
our beach over-night and you are ready for the next days drift from the
resort to a takeout at Indian Creek. |
| |
|
| |
We can help arrange to have your truck and
trailer shuttled back from the put-in (China Point or Gordon's Ferry) to
the resort. |
