KLAMATH RIVER RAFTING |
| |
|
|

The Klamath River is one of the most
popular destinations for whitewater river rafting in California. The
Klamath River offers the longest water flows in the far West.
The upper section North East of Yreka offers class 3, 4 rapids while the
mid-Klamath (Happy Camp)
offers mostly class 2 and 3. The waters are warm (70+) having traveled
over 150 miles from Eastern Oregon. The Klamath is most popular with
families with children who can not brave the cold snow melt waters in the
Sierra Rivers. |

|
|
|
| |
Klamath River Resort Inn
lies 2 miles outside of the town of Happy Camp on the banks of the Klamath
River. KRRI is the only riverfront lodging in Happy Camp - or for
50-100 miles up or downriver for that matter - and one of the last historic
fishing lodges on the Klamath. Our private
boat launch is a great spot to leave you car and paddle down the family
friendly lower section of the Klamath River. This is also a
great spot to end your trip if you put in anywhere upriver. |

Launch your personal raft/canoe/kayak
or tube from the shore of the resort - the float for the next hour is very calm
with 4 spots of "whitewater" (rated under a 1) which is perfect for families.
Most of this run is away from the highway.
The takeout is at Indian Creek. Continue on down
river for thrilling class two, three and four rapids. (we recommend this
for experienced paddlers only or with a guide and commercial raft - see
below for list of outfitters) |

Up river from the resort are also
several great options for family paddling or tubeing fun. The
shortest float back to the lodge is the "Gordons Ferry Road" section. This is about
a 10 minute drive from the resort which then takes just over 1.5 hours to
return back to the resort. This section of the river is more remote
as none of the river follows the highway. This section is 1/3 of the
big "Cade Mountain Canyon run." |
| |
|
|
|
| |
The "Cade Mountain Canyon" section takes
about 5-7 hours to complete. Virtually the entire run is away from the
highway and is the remotest waters on the entire Klamath River. The
put in for this run is at Seattle Creek.
Driving time from the resort is apx. 1/2 hour. The run is float,
riffles and some family friendly whitewater. There is one rated
II rapid. This is also one
of the most scenic stretches. |

If you have someone in your party to
drop off or pickup your paddlers -great! If you are in need of
someone to shuttle you or your boat give us a call and we can help. KEEP THIS IN MIND:
KLAMATH RIVER RESORT INN IS HAPPY CAMP'S ONLY RIVERFRONT LODGING WHICH
MEANS THAT YOU ONLY HAVE TO BE SHUTTLED ONE TIME - THAT REDUCES YOUR COST
BY 50%!!!!! |

Most of our guests utilize one of the
guided rafting companies listed below. For families with little or
no experience, the guided trips are great as they are highly trained, have
the best equiptment, and take care of all the permits, restrooms, cooking,
and transportation. You just care about having fun on the river.
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
You should plan on staying with
us before and after the rafting trip. Happy Camp is over 1.5 hours
from the nearest city - Yreka. That is just too far to drive with
any realistic hope of being on time for the rafting trip. Every year
several families miss their trip because they tried. After a
rafting trip it is too dangerous to be that tired and then drive 90 miles
on the twisting and turning river road. Play it safe and stay here
in Happy Camp - you'll be glad you did. |
